MyMa Festival 2024

OpenOPOLE MyMa Festival

On the first weekend of August – August 3 and 4, the sixth edition of the OpenOPOLE Artistic Events Festival will take place. This colorful and diverse event host this year the MyMa European Festival. Over the two festival days, we will see street performances, shows, and interesting artistic installations linked to the dramaturgy of the myths and the use of masking.

Alongside the established Opole festival, a new public event emerges thanks to European cooperation and the Creative Europe Programme. Associations and institutions from Poland, Belgium, Italy, and France, aided by co-funding provided by the European Union created the second edition of the International „Myths & Masks of the Future” Festival. After the 2023 edition in France this year, the festival will take place in Poland, together with OpenOPOLE festival.

The „Myths and Masks” festival aims to promote an innovative approach using masks in the European theatre, rediscovering their anthropological origins and relaunching their use in the popular performing arts. Thus the proposed programme includes exclusively performances whose theme will revolve around mask and myth usage in modern theatre.

Thanks to the Eu project, in addition to the usual Polish performers, artists from Spain, Estonia, France, Italy, and Croatia will also be featured. As part of the special section “Myths and Masks,” selected performances will showcase various uses of theatrical masks.

The program includes performances by Maracaibo Teatro (ES), Cirq’O Vent (FR), Tricktrek (EE), Teatr Uszyty (PL), Teatr Migro (PL), Teatr Delikates (PL), Teatr A (PL), Fundacja Sztukmistrze (PL) and La Capra Ballerina Puppet Theatre (IT), among others.

Since this year’s festival is an International Festival, Opole will also become a center for artistic exchange. The organizer, the Pro-Scenium Cultural Association, has invited directors of 15 major festivals from all over Europe and the UK to Opole, who, along with the audience, will watch the events as part of OpenOPOLE. This is a unique opportunity to support and stimulate the theatre sector, helping to put Opole on the European map of street theatre festivals.

The event is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Opole.
The OpenOPOLE Festival is co-funded from the budget of the City of Opole.
The “Myths and Masks of the Future” project is co-funded by European Union.
